Subject Metrics is aware of recent reports concerning searches conducted through the SubjectGraph platform without complete contemporaneous documentation.

We take these concerns seriously.

Following an internal review, we confirmed that the searches were performed by authorized users with valid credentials through functionality operating according to customer configuration.

Several searches did not include the optional explanatory text recommended by agency policy.

They have therefore been reclassified as undocumented authorized searches.

Platform operation

Our review found no evidence that SubjectGraph:

  • Granted access to an unauthorized account
  • Returned information outside the configured search scope
  • Bypassed an existing technical restriction
  • Failed to create an audit record
  • Operated differently from the way it was designed

The platform successfully recorded each search, including the user, time, subject, jurisdiction, and records accessed.

These logs were available throughout the review to individuals authorized to review them.

Corrective action

Subject Metrics is working with the participating agency to implement:

  • Refresher training
  • Updated policy language
  • A clearer search-purpose dropdown
  • A mandatory acknowledgment checkbox
  • Revised tooltips describing the importance of appropriate use

The underlying search capabilities will remain available during this process to avoid disruption to ongoing public-safety operations.

We recognize that trust depends not only on what technology can do, but on confidence that its capabilities will be used according to policies capable of being updated when they are not.

Subject Metrics remains committed to responsible visibility, continuous improvement, and ensuring that every search is properly documented after concerns arise.
